WHY IT MATTERS

Why Ongoing ADHD Care Keeps
Your Treatment Safe and Effective

Starting ADHD medication is just the beginning. To remain safe and effective, treatment requires regular review of your physical health, symptom control, and any changes in your circumstances. Without this, medication can become less effective or cause unmonitored side effects over time.

Our ongoing care pathway removes the complexity — whether your GP accepts shared care or not, we have a solution that keeps your treatment on track without unnecessary disruption.

  • Evidence-Based Annual reviews follow NICE guidelines covering physical health, symptom management, and medication effectiveness.
  • Consultant-Led Reviews are overseen by your GMC-registered Consultant Psychiatrist, ensuring clinical continuity.
  • Flexible Pathways Shared care via your GP or through our partnership with IDOS UK — whichever suits your situation.

YOUR JOURNEY

What to Expect from
Ongoing ADHD Care

Once your ADHD medication titration is complete and symptoms are well controlled, you move into the ongoing care phase. Your Consultant Psychiatrist confirms you are ready for routine monitoring.

At your pace

We discuss whether shared care via your NHS GP or our partnership with IDOS UK is the most appropriate option for you. Some GP practices in the North East and across the UK are currently not accepting shared care for ADHD medication — if this applies to you, IDOS UK provides a complete alternative package.

Personalised to your situation

A review of your medication, symptom control, and any changes in your health or lifestyle. Conducted by your Consultant Psychiatrist at Integra or through our partner service. Prescription charges apply per prescription issued.

Every 6 to 12 months

Ongoing checks of blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and general wellbeing — essential for safe long-term use of ADHD medication. This can be carried out by your GP under shared care or through IDOS UK.

Every 6 to 12 months

If your circumstances change, your symptoms worsen, or you need a medication adjustment, follow-up appointments are available at your discretion. We remain your clinical point of contact throughout.

Common Questions
Answered

We know managing long-term treatment can feel uncertain. Here's clear, honest guidance on how ongoing care and shared care arrangements work at Integra.

A consultation with an Integra Psychiatry psychiatrist

Shared care is a formal arrangement where a specialist — in this case a Consultant Psychiatrist — initiates and stabilises your ADHD medication before transferring routine prescribing and monitoring to your NHS GP. Your GP then issues ongoing prescriptions and carries out regular physical health checks, while the specialist remains available for clinical review when needed. Not all GP practices currently accept shared care for ADHD medication, particularly across parts of the North East.

If your GP practice is not accepting shared care for ADHD medication, we have a partnership with IDOS UK, a local North East GP practice, who can provide a complete ongoing care package including annual prescription reviews and physical health monitoring at a relatively low cost.

ADHD treatment follow-up appointments are £325 for 30 minutes, inclusive of the prescription fee.

Once stable on medication, you will typically require a prescription review and physical health monitoring every six to twelve months. This follows NICE guidance for safe long-term management of ADHD medication.

Yes. ADHD is a recognised neurodevelopmental condition that persists into adulthood for the majority of those diagnosed. While symptoms and their impact can change over time, ADHD typically requires long-term management — which is why annual monitoring and regular prescription reviews are an essential part of safe, effective treatment.

Monitoring includes checks of blood pressure, heart rate, weight, sleep patterns, and general mental wellbeing. These checks are particularly important for stimulant medications and are carried out at each review appointment — either by your GP under shared care or through IDOS UK.

If your GP practice begins accepting shared care for ADHD medication in the future, it is possible to transition back. Your Consultant Psychiatrist can support this process and provide the necessary clinical documentation. Contact us to discuss your individual situation.

The 30% rule is a concept used in some clinical and educational contexts suggesting that individuals with ADHD may function emotionally and in terms of self-regulation at roughly 30% below their chronological age. It is not a formal diagnostic criterion or part of NICE guidelines, but is sometimes referenced by clinicians to help explain certain behavioural patterns. If you have questions about how ADHD is affecting your functioning, this is best discussed directly with your Consultant Psychiatrist.

Our documentation is produced by Consultant Psychiatrists on the GMC Specialist Register and follows NICE clinical guidelines. It is formatted to support GP liaison and shared care arrangements. We recommend informing your GP that you are under private specialist care so they are prepared to receive correspondence.

Yes. Consultations can be invoiced directly to your insurer where preferred. Prior authorisation from your insurance provider is required before booking. Please note that insurers do not cover late cancellation or non-attendance charges — these remain the patient's responsibility.
